Psychodrama
is a natural and powerful method for helping troubled, abused and traumatized
children tell their stories, safely express strong feelings and try
out new behaviors and roles. This professional training will offer participants
the opportunity to learn adaptations of the psychodramatic method that
work especially well with groups of children ages seven though twelve.
Many of these structures can be adapted to work with individuals and
families.
WHAT YOU WILL
LEARN!
Participants
will explore and experience structures that allow for the safe acting
out of children's hopes, fears and difficulties through the use of:
The use of
group ritual and structures for safety and containment will be demonstrated.
Ways to address
the difficulties inherent in using psychodrama with children will be
discussed.

CEUS
Continuing
education units provided by this training are accepted by National Association
of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), National Board of Certified
Counselors and towards recertification requirements for the National
Registry of Group Psychotherapist as well as 16 hours towards certification
by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama and Group Psychotherapy.

TRAINER BIO
Rebecca Walters,M.S., TEP*, LMHC, LCAT
is the founder and co-director of the Hudson Valley Psychodrama
Institute in New Paltz, NY since 1989. She is the Director of Adolescent
and Child Psychodrama Services at Four Winds Psychiatric Hospital in
Westchster, NY, where she currently runs six psychodrama groups a week
with children ages five through eight, nine through twelve, eleven through
fourteen and thirteen through seventeen. She is also the director of
the psychodrama internship program at Four Winds. Rebecca has run psychodrama
groups with children, adolescents and adults since 1976.
Rebecca Walters
is a Fellow of the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama,
and along with Judy Swallow was the recipient of the ASGPP 2005 Collaborators
Award for her work in the fields of psychodrama, sociometry and group
psychotherapy. She is certified as a *Trainer, Educator and Practitioner
by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group
Psychotherapy. She is licensed in NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist and
as a Mental Health Counselor.
As a trainer
she is known for her warmth, sensitivity, humor and clarity.
