Addicts/alcoholics in early recovery are known for their cognitive deficits
and often experience learning difficulties. Psychodrama works around
those difficulties with experiential group activities and role plays.
This training for addiction counselors goes to the heart of early recovery
by exploring the client’s willingness to engage in recovery and
the complex relationship the client has with her/his addictive behavior.
Willingness is the one absolute essential requirement for addiction
treatment to actually work. We will also explore the inevitable occurrence
of relapse; or at a minimum the temptation for relapse. Participants
will learn psychodramatic structures that enact the stages of relapse
and the recovery actions every addict must use to stay sober.
In this training addiction counselors will experience and learn how
to use action methods of psychodrama and sociodrama to help the addict/alcoholic:
Work around cognitive deficits
Activate their willingness to engage in recovery
Enact the stages of relapse as a psychoeducational tool
Identify and practice recovery actions
Action techniques for group building and increasing trust
Students at all levels of experience are welcomed. Overnight accommodations
are available.
